Dear Substack Readers,
In the quiet corners of our hearts, where the metamorphosis of dreams takes flight, I invite you to witness the unfolding of a tale spun from the very fabric of wonder. Picture a butterfly farmer, tenderly nurturing each cocoon, where wing ink still wet with dawn's promise glistens under the first rays of daybreak. Here, amidst this sacred alchemy of imagination and love, a new story takes root.
The journey begins with a serendipitous find in a Whitstable charity shop—a weathered volume titled "The Observer's Book of Butterflies." Its pages, delicate and adorned with the hues of nature’s poetry, whispered secrets that danced on canvases crafted with palettes that, like compasses, guide our quest to craft "The Butterfly Farmer," a children's book that melds artistry with the profound.
Caleb, my steadfast illustrator and friend, bends time with charcoal and soul, sketching wings of futures not yet unseen. As he awaits the arrival of his second child, each stroke etches a promise: through art and story, we carve spaces where young minds unfold like wings, discovering the limitless skies of possibility.
In the chaos of the master's palette lies the ethos of my research and the essence of our narrative. This convergence of art and scientific inquiry mirrors the transformative journey of the imaginal cell within a chrysalis—a catalyst for the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Just as Matisse boldly declares, Van Gogh swirls emotions, Degas delicately observes, and Turner paints ethereal landscapes, our collective endeavor seeks to inspire, educate, and ignite imaginations.
This duality is at the heart of my forthcoming article, exploring not just the beauty of nature's design but also the resilience and wonder inherent in every young mind. It's a celebration of creativity and curiosity, where each brushstroke and word unfolds like petals in a summer breeze. The imaginal cell, holding the blueprint for transformation, becomes a metaphor for our journey—a journey that transcends pages and classrooms, touching hearts and sparking dreams.
As a poet-in-residence in schools, I bring the flutter of butterfly wings and the whisper of tales yet told. Exclusive previews of artwork and first copies will grace the eager hands of students, accompanied by readings that kindle imaginations and workshops I hope that transform learning into flight.

Patrons become pioneers of a narrative yet unfurled, where the path less traveled leads to places where children's laughter echoes and minds soar. Your patronage and support is the paint with which those involved will craft their dreams.
This journey isn't just about storytelling; it's about crafting psychological safety and hope, echoing through "The Wandering Lamb" and the unconditional love it embraces. As a doctoral-level thinker and advocate for hidden disabilities, I navigate a path less linear, driven by curiosity and the persistent question: "Why?"
In the spirit of "The Slow Professor" (Berg & Seeber, 2016), where freedom invites us to play and dream, we invite you to witness the birth of "The Butterfly Farmer." It's more than a children's book; it's a haven of resilience and dreams reborn, where art and science intertwine like vines in a summer garden.
Together, let's weave threads of hope and curiosity, crafting not just stories, but havens of imagination and growth. Our Kickstarter will soon launch, offering patrons a chance to be part of something special—a national bestseller in the making, anchored in the transformative power of storytelling and art.
With boundless gratitude and anticipation,
